AHMEDABAD: Even as the tussle within the Reliance group rages on between the Ambani brothers, group chairman Mukesh Ambani went to great lengths to avoid the media at the first convocation of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT) held in Gandhinagar on Saturday evening.
The elder Ambani sibling was cordoned off from the media, right from the moment he stepped off the dais, by a human chain formed by private security personnel.
Mediapersons were also barred from entering the room where he was whisked away after the convocation ceremony.
Even as the media waited patiently to have a word with him, the senior Ambani beat a hasty retreat from a side door.
Earlier during the convocation ceremony, Mukesh, who is also president of the DA-IICT Society, dwelt at length on his father Dhirubhai Ambani, his dreams and ideals, and sought to project Reliance Infocomm as his father''s chosen vehicle to shape India''s future and propel it to global leadership in the knowledge-age.
He also announced plans for setting up a network of DA-IICTs in J&K and West Bengal to begin with. These would be among several such institutions that would be set up by the non-profit DAIICT Society.
Kapil Sibal, union minister of state for science and technology and ocean development, in his convocation address, while harping on Dhirubhai''s ideals addressed Mukesh as "a discerning son walking in the footsteps of his father".
